Cape Verde will be the location of a series of experiment to measure greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. £487,000 has been awarded to Lucy Carpenter and Dr Alastair Lewis, of the chemistry department at York University, by the National Environment Research Council to instigate and run an atmospheric observatory on Sao Vicente. They will be working alongside the NERC's Surface Ocean - Lower Atmosphere Study team as major partners with German and Cape Verdean scientists.
Dr Lewis said, “This project is a key component in understanding how global changes in atmospheric composition and climate may affect the ocean and biogeochemical processes occurring within it." |
