Villagers Encouraged to Campaign for Broadband Satellite Link

Resident from some of the most isolated areas of Yorkshire are being asked to sign up for a campaign to gain a high-tech satellite broadband internet connection.

They have already gotten past the first stages of the campaign and will now be putting forth a business plan to Yorkshire Forward, who already have a grant in mind for the enterprise.

Residents of Rosedale, Farndale and Bransdale are being asked to register their interest now rather than waiting.

The moors of North Yorkshire are infamous for their poor quality internet connection, both narrow-band dial up and high speed broadband are of very bad quality or none-existent in these areas. A wireless broadband connection using a satellite dish would not be effected by the location of broadband customers in the same way as land-line based alternatives. Though extreme weather conditions can sometimes have an adverse effect, a satellite connection would be a vast improvement to villagers beyond the reach of normal high-quality internet connections.

Kath Seddon, of High Blakey House, Blakey Ridge, and Barry Sunley, of Hill Houses, Farndale, who started the campaign, were pleased by a 40-strong turn-out to their latest meeting last week, when seven villagers were voted on to a management committee.
