THE brightest and the best in the tourism industry in Yorkshire was honoured last night.
More than 450 guests attended the White Rose Awards for Tourism at the National Railway Museum in York to honour everything from the best accommodation in the region to the best attractions.
Tourism is worth £4.1bn each year to the region's economy and the industry employs more than 165,000 people.

Judith Donovan, chairman of the Yorkshire Tourist Board which organised the event, said: "I can't stress strongly enough the importance of quality to the growth and success of the tourism industry. That's what these awards are about – they are a physical recognition of quality." Among the winners was Gallon House in Knaresborough which picked up the accolade for best guest accommodation.
Hotel of the year with up to 50 bedrooms was the Grange Hotel in York while the hotel of the year with more than 35 bedrooms was Brooklands Hotel in Barnsley.
Visitor attraction of the year with fewer than 100,000 visitors was the Captain Cook Memorial Museum in Whitby. The winner with more than 100,000 visitors was Castle Howard.
The best tourism experience award went to Xscape in Castleford. The best newcomer to tourism was jointly won by Lockton Youth Hostel in Lockton and Westwood Lodge in Ilkley.
Pub of the year was the Angel Inn at Hetton, near Skipton.
