Mark Branagan (Yorkshire Post) Realising the going would not be good on the Knavesmire for heavy traffic they decided to offer a tow to vehicles taking part in the Northern Motor Caravan Show. A York Council spokesman said: "The ground is very soft due to non-stop rain which fell throughout yesterday. "We organised seven tractors from local farmers to help tow vehicles booked into the show on to their designated sites." The show is taking place at the racecourse until tomorrow and traffic is expected to be busy on the A64. The largest crowd is expected today. This year City of York Council, together with North Yorkshire Police, has put improved traffic management arrangements in place to try to minimise the disruption to the city and local residents. Signs are being put in place from the A19, directing traffic to use the A168 Thirsk by-pass to the A1 and then south. Traffic travelling east on the A59 from Harrogate will again be signed south at Allerton Park onto the A1, with all traffic then using the A64 as the approach route to the venue. A decision has been made this year to split the traffic for the event and send it via two routes to minimise the impact on Tadcaster Road. Signs will be in place between the end of the sliproad from the A64 eastbound at London Bridge and the junction with Tadcaster Road and Sim Balk Lane. The signs will direct traffic that has pre-booked for the event via Tadcaster Road, whilst all other event traffic will use Sim Balk Lane, Church Lane, Bishopthorpe Road and Campleshon Road to the Knavesmire. |
