(Yorkshire Post) Brian Dooks The collection of chocolate boxes from down the ages has been donated to the museum by Kraft Foods, parent company of Terry's, which had a 200-year association with the city. The packaging includes different designs for the All Gold and Devon Milk assortments through the 20th century, Easter eggs, Chocolate Oranges and a Chocolate Apple box – a Terry's brand that never proved as popular as the Orange. The museum's assistant curator of social history, Sarah Maultby, said: "We already had a good relationship with Terry's – we have the sweet shop in Princess Mary Court in the museum and we went into the factory seven or eight years ago when we held our chocolate exhibition. "We're really pleased with this fascinating addition to our collection and we hope that visitors enjoy it too." York Castle Museum has joined with the York Oral History Society to compile a record of the Terry's chocolate factory and they are appealing for memories from people who have worked there over the past decades. Anyone who has memories of life at the factory or stories about the people who worked there is asked to telephone York Oral History Society on 01904 644381. |
