ACCESS INTELLIGENCE, the support services company, announced its first-ever profit yesterday and said it had bought an e-commerce solutions business for up to £2.1m.

The York-based company is in the process of putting together a group of businesses which specialise in support services.
Its main customers are either small to medium sized businesses, or the public sector, namely Government departments.
The acquisition of Due North, which is based just outside Newcastle, will give the group an important entry into e-commerce.
Around 40 per cent of police authorities subscribe to Due North. Some seven per cent of local authorities and 11 per cent of fire brigades also subscribe to the service.
Yesterday Access Intelligence said that it had made a profit before tax and goodwill of £8,000 compared to a loss of £118,000 the previous year.
Turnover was up 31 per cent on the previous year and the group said it was looking for new businesses to join the group.
Access Intelligence has five main subsidiaries, including The Marketing Guild in York and Backup and Running in York.
