Yorkshire Post Today Plans submitted to Selby District Council show the school being relocated to land behind the authority's offices in Portholme Road, allowing the historic "bowling green" to be retained. Dransfield Properties wants to encourage the local population to shop in Selby – improving the town's economy and preventing trade leaking to Leeds, York and Castleford. Managing director Mark Dransfield said national retailers were eager to have a presence in Selby but there was a lack of accommodation to meet their needs. "The new purpose-built units will bring leading high street names to the town, encouraging more visitors and protecting the future vitality of the area." The retail element consists of three new units and extending Morrison's from 48,244sq ft to 71,795sq ft. The new buildings are designed to blend into the conservation area and would be of brick and slate. No Morrison delivery vehicles would use Portholme Road. |
