Brian Dooks (Yorkshire Post) The order was made on September 22 when David Boag, York's licensing officer and a police constable with an exemplary 27-year career, had appeared before Harrogate magistrates. Boag, 45, then pleaded guilty to stalking Joanne Edwards, with whom he had lived for five years, and sending her unwanted text messages and e-mails, visiting her home and following her in his car. The court imposed a two-year restraint order and fined Boag £400 with £50 prosecution costs after magistrates heard their relationship had ended and Ms Edwards , of Sandy Gap, Haxby, York, had a new man in her life. But yesterday they were told that on Monday Boag, of Windsor Drive, Wigginton, York, drove to Joseph Rowntree School in New Earswick, where Ms Edwards worked at an adult education centre, and glared at her through a window. Mark Haig, prosecuting, sought a remand in custody for Boag. He said the couple had parted on friendly terms, but after she met Timothy Hainsworth in July, Boag's attitude had changed and the harassment had begun. ''She said she felt frightened and had to lock the house,'' he added. Applying for bail, Boag's solicitor Andrew Cameron said there had been no threats made against Ms Edwards, the mother of a seven-year-old girl. "There were seven occasions where there were meetings or incidents. On occasions these were acrimonious, but there were no threats of violence. His actions were those of a man who found it difficult to come to terms with the breakdown of the relationship, and that remains the case.'' Boag was bailed on condition he lives with his sister Ruth Chapman near Norwich, stays out of North Yorkshire until he returns to court for a pre-trial review hearing on November 8 and has no contact with prosecution witnesses. North Yorkshire Police said Boag had been suspended from duty. |
