A SCHOOLBOY'S letter seeking a raffle prize for school funds led to the whole class going on a VIP trip to York. (Bridlington Today) After Neil Raw, 11, visited Clifford's Tower, one of York's historic landmarks, with his family he wrote to English Heritage asking if it would donate a ticket to Boynton primary school's PTA raffle. Instead, it offered him a season ticket for all of its Yorkshire sites and invited Neil and his classmates along for a special visit. Janet Burrows, English Heritage's marketing executive, said: "From the enthusiasm in the letter, Neil had obviously had a fantastic time when he visited, so we were more than happy to provide them with a raffle prize, but wanted to go one step further. We welcome many school groups to Clifford's Tower, and decided to offer them an extra special visit, with their own 16th century guide." During their VIP trip the class visited the Archaeological Resource Centre and York Minster before ending their visit at Clifford's Tower. Joe Dodd, Boynton headteacher and Neil's class teacher, said: "The children thoroughly enjoyed their visit and had a great day out in York. It was a real treat for the year six children in their last few weeks at the school." |
