Yorkshire Post Today Julie Hemmings Ms Spencer – an Australian singer and actress who met her husband on a film set in 1990 – is known to be close to her relatives in Britain, who were among the first people she told of her engagement. When it was feared ill- health would prevent her grandparents, Peter and Nell Horsfall, from travelling from their then home in Nether Poppleton to attend the wedding, her fiancé took advantage of a break in filming commitments to fly up to Yorkshire and call on them. Crowe is reported to have returned this week, with his wife and young son, Charlie, to catch up with his English in-laws. He has been spotted browsing in Border's York bookshop and enjoying a family meal at the Blue Bicycle, one of the city's top restaurants. A spokeswoman for the Horsfall family said: "It was a great night out and lovely to see Russell and the family. "He always makes a real effort to see Peter and Nell and is a really nice man." The New Zealand-born star of The Insider, L.A. Confidential and A Beautiful Mind had been filming in France and London for his next role in A Good Year, based on the Peter Mayle novel of the same title. Crowe plays an English banker who inherits a vineyard in Provence, perhaps reflecting a change in his image since his marriage to devoted family man. The film – now in post-production and due for release next year – reunites Crowe with director Ridley Scott, who directed him in blockbuster Gladiator. |
