THE Duke of York has taken a fundraising appeal for York Minster to the United States.

Prince Andrew attended a dinner in New York as part of the £30m campaign to restore the cathedral's East Front, including its window, which is the size of a tennis court and the biggest expanse of medieval stained glass in the world.
The Duke, who is patron of the appeal, visited the Minster last week while in York for the Royal Ascot race meeting.
He told the diners that the Minster, the largest Gothic cathedral in northern Europe, is one of the "architectural masterpieces of the world".
"I have visited the building on many occasions and never cease to be amazed by its stone and glass," he said.
"We need help to restore the cathedral and it is my hope that tonight's event and the publicity surrounding it will encourage our American friends to visit York and see the Minster for themselves."
The dinner, on Thursday, was hosted by Christie's. Friends of the auction house were given an address and presentation about the cathedral.
