Bus passengers are having to pay a 10% increase in fares due to the rising cost of fuel. Operator First York says it uses more than 3.5m gallons of diesel a year to keep city passengers on the move. But it says the cost of crude oil has risen by 50% in the last year forcing the company to increase fares by 10p a single journey and 20p for a return. First York said fares for elderly residents would remain at 25p a trip or 50p for a day ticket. |
