Attraction ruled out of royal meeting

Mark Johnston's star filly Attraction will miss the Group One Queen Anne Stakes on the opening day of the Royal meeting at York next week.

Her trainer favours a campaign later in the summer after she suffered a minor strain to her left fore fetlock while racing in Hong Kong.

"Although she is sound and continues to be ridden out at exercise, I feel she ought to be given more time," explained Johnston.

The Group One Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket on July 2 has been pencilled in for her next outing.

It was in this event last year that this exceptional performer lost her unbeaten record against Soviet Song, who went on to be top mile filly in Europe in 2004.

Attraction did compete at Royal Ascot last June when she added the Coronation Stakes to her history-making English-Irish 1,000 Guineas double.

She was one of five North Yorkshire winners at the five-day festival when Johnston also saddled Double Obsession to win the Ascot Stakes.

James Bethell won the Royal Hunt Cup with Mine, Fayr Jag triumphed in the Golden Jubilee Stakes for Tim Easterby, while sprint king Dandy Nicholls landed the Wokingham with Lafi.

But Johnston has been the shining light at Royal Ascot in recent years. Since 1995, he has sent out a staggering 21 winners at the meeting.

Top Australian sprinter Fastnet Rock will miss Royal Ascot as he has not recovered from a bout of travel sickness following his arrival in England.

Connections are also worried that the four-year-old may not even make the Darley July Cup at Newmarket.

"He's still suffering from travel sickness and I can't train him properly," said trainer Paul Perry's son Shannon, who is looking after the horse at Geoff Wragg's Newmarket yard.

Fastnet Rock, owned by Sue Magnier, was put on a course of antibiotics in a bid to cure the problem and help get him ready for the King's Stand Stakes and the Golden Jubilee Stakes, which the Perry stable won with Choisir in 2003.

"We will monitor him in the next seven to 10 days and hope that he improves to get him to the July Cup.

"If he doesn't then we will have to call it off.
