ARMED police were combing York city centre last night after three men, two carrying hammers and one a handgun, stole watches from a jewellery shop.

The robbers walked into Harpers Jewellers in Minster Gates at 4.10pm and grabbed watches. One ran off down Petergate and the other two through Minster Gates. No shots were fired and no one was injured.

The men were all white and aged 20-25. The first was 6ft 1in tall, thickset and wore a light-coloured hooded coat.

The second was 5ft 6in-5ft 10in, slight and wore glasses. The third was 5ft 6in-5ft 10in, of slight build and dressed in a dark brown coat and a dark hat.
