Julie Hemmings THE new Archbishop of York will have to live in temporary accommodation when he moves to the city later this year. (Yorkshire Post) Dr John Sentamu, the current Bishop of Birmingham, will be enthroned at York Minster on November 30 but will not be able to move into the Archbishop's official residence of Bishopthorpe Palace until the end of 2006 while essential repairs are carried out. The Church Commissioners – who administer the Church of England's properties, including Bishopthorpe Palace on the southern edge of York – have bought a temporary home for the Archbishop and his family on Bishopthorpe's Main Street . The Archbishop's office will remain at the palace. The new house is thought to cost around £450,000. It will be sold on when the Archbishop moves back into his official residence. Dr Sentamu will be elected by York Minster's College of Canons as the 97th Archbishop of York in the Minster tomorrow. |
