Cloister, The Parlour

The parlour

The fine doorway of the parlour is designed to match the three archways of the chapter house. The parlour was the place where essential conversation between the monks was allowed, silence being generally observed elsewhere in the monastic buildings. It is little more than a passage through the range, with another doorway at its east end. The three bays of vaulting are carried by triple corbels carved with unusual and severely beautiful leaf designs.
